Celeste And The Kindred Awakening (Book One)

Chapter Two

Celeste knelt at her bedside, just as she did earlier. As she stared at herself lying on the bed sleeping. She couldn’t help but notice how peaceful she looked. She suddenly thought, “death seemed peaceful.” Celeste did not want to give in just yet. So she climbed back into bed, hoping to make her lifeless body move.

She made sure to position herself exactly as her body was lying on the bed. Her left leg was slightly bent, her right leg was stretched out straight, and her arms were at her sides. Celeste left nothing to chance. With one deep breath, Celeste closed her eyes and opened them again. Everything looked exactly the same as before. She wondered if her experiment worked but was too afraid to move.

Finally, she said to herself, “don’t be a wuss. It either works, or it doesn’t”. With that thought, she looked at her right leg and tried to stretch it out. Earlier, when she did, she could feel her leg move but couldn’t see it move. This time when she moved her leg, her leg actually moved!

Celeste couldn’t believe her eyes. She then tried moving her arms and found that her arms were also moving. Celeste exclaimed, “It worked! I can’t believe it actually worked!” “Huh! I’m not dead, I’m not dead, I’m not dead! I can’t believe I’m not dead.”

Celeste jumped out of bed and looked back at the sheets to discover that the bed was, in fact, empty. She could scarcely believe her eyes. “Oh crap! What the heck just happened to me?” Celeste thought as a million thoughts raced through her brain. “I’ve got to tell Carine and Morgan. This will absolutely blow their minds.” Celeste said aloud as she ran through the house to find her sister and Morgan to tell them what she just experienced.

Celeste only found her sister Carine in the kitchen. “Carine, you would not believe what just happened to me,” Celeste blurted. Carine turned to her sister in annoyance, holding a tray with an array of snacks. “Oh, let me guess, you overslept and almost missed the start of the show?” Carine asked sarcastically.

“No, oh, ah, what?” Celeste stuttered as she struggled between sharing her news and processing what Carine was saying. After a few seconds of silence between them, Carine finally shouted, “you overslept and almost missed the beginning of the show. I had to prepare all the snacks by myself, Celeste! You said you would do it, and I ended up doing it because your lazy bones couldn’t get out of bed! Why do I even bother? I mean, we said, we will watch it together, the three of us, but you are only now waking up, and the show is about to begin? Well, aren’t you going to say anything? Carine finally let out an exasperated sigh at the end of her tongue-lashing to Celeste.

“Yes,” Celeste offered weakly. Knowing that if she didn’t tread lightly, Carine would go off into another one of her diatribes. “I’m so sorry that I overslept,” she started slowly. “I really didn’t mean to. “Something incredible happened that prevented me from waking up.” Celeste paused, giving her sister Carine a few moments to either accept her apology and ask for an explanation. Or, the more likely scenario, dive headfirst into a verbal tirade.

“Okay, let’s hear it. What was this ‘incredible thing that kept you from waking up? It better be good, or you’re in for in,” Carine warned. “Oh, it’s a doozy alright, but I have to tell it to you quickly before the start of the show because it has something to do with it,” Celeste explained. “Oh?” Carine said questioningly, her interest piqued. Just then, Morgan came to the door. “Perfect timing!” Celeste exclaimed. “Now I can tell both of you at the same time what happened to me. Brace yourselves.” She cautioned.
