Tiny Embers In The Darkness

There is this vibrant young lady full of spark and energy. She does not want to conquer the world. Instead, she wants to leave it a little better off than she found it.

The one thing she desires for herself is perhaps a little bright light she could mold to shine on after she is gone.

She loves with great passion. Her naivety is endearing but also her downfall. The light that burns so brightly in her is evident for all to see. Most love just being around her. But there is one who wants to snuff it out.

The Wolf

A wolf with the smile of a Cheshire cat would pursue the naive young lady relentlessly. Yet still, she has her dream… But he knows the right words.

“Marry me, and your dream will be a reality,” the wolf said. And the naive young lady, not knowing what the future holds, agrees. An ominous sign causes the wolf’s wedding ring to break on the wedding night. And the innocent young lady realizes too late that all is lost.

The wolf could hardly contain his delight. He makes his intention known a short three months later. He says to the naive, “It is my role in life to break you down to nothing,” His devilish grin signaling his truth To her horror. The naive loses all naivety in the blur of the years that follows. For what can a little bright light do when the darkness comes to snuff it out?

A Flickering of Embers

One fateful night there is a flickering of embers where the bright light once glowed. She gathers those embers of courage and decides not to be consumed by the darkness anymore.

It is a night that forever changes her future and that of her mini bright light. That gathering of embers means she would have to leave everything and everyone else behind. And so she does.

She takes her embers, her little bright light, and moves to a faraway land. Happy ever after? No, not yet. The embers are too weak, and the darkness had got its taste. She would come to attract the darkness again because the light draws the darkness.

Eventually, the tiny embers turn into a fire and then into a flame. And though the darkness no longer surrounds her. The darkness did touch her and forever changed her.

  1. Dear Raine,

I stumbled upon your website and the whimsical name “Quwhits” drew my immediate curiosity.
“Tiny embers in the dark” is a beautiful symbol of hope and life in the midst of darkness. I myself always look for the light even in the darkest situation.
Your life experience reads like a story in which the reader gets “lost” and finds him-herself in (sometimes getting lost in/to life is what happens to us). I am happy you “moved to a far away land”, may your escape proof successful.
I love to read a “story” that ends in an upswing, yours’ does exactly that.
I am especially excited for you as I read “Eventually, the tiny embers turn into a fire and then into a flame”. A flame is great.
Keep up the good fight and keep the fire burning.

    1. Hello ABH,

I am glad that you stumbled upon Quwhits – Welcome! I am happy to know that you gleaned the essence of what I tried to convey in Tiny Embers. Too often, when we experience setbacks, tragedies, misfortunes, and the like, we tend to let whatever light we have inside grow dim. But it only takes a spark. As long as a tiny ember of hope is kept alive, we can eventually turn it into a blazing flame again.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I will certainly keep the fire burning.

      Raine
